This PhD study focuses on the molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) growth of broadband emission mid-infrared quantum cascade lasers (QCLs) for spectroscopy applications. The research will involve designing QCL active regions to achieve a broad emission spectrum, optimizing MBE growth parameters for high-quality materials, and evaluating the performance of the resulting QCL devices. The scientific novelty of the project stems from the development of QCLs with broad emission spectra, which can significantly enhance their applicability in various spectroscopy-based applications, such as environmental monitoring, medical diagnostics, and security.
