FTMC has brought together the country’s top scientists and is equipped with state-of-the-art laboratory facilities. As a result, many of the scientific studies conducted here are unique not only in Lithuania but also worldwide. The technologies developed and the scientific achievements attained are recognized internationally. FTMC employs 38 habilitated doctors of science, 246 PhDs, and over 500 research staff, and hosts 114 doctoral students. Over the years, FTMC has completed more than 300 business contracts and has helped over 100 companies achieve their business goals.

Work

FTMC is the largest research institution in Lithuania, conducting fundamental and applied research in the fields of physics, chemistry, optoelectronics, laser technologies, nuclear physics, and organic chemistry. FTMC also operates open access centers that provide scientific infrastructure services to both businesses and the academic community. Intellectual and technological innovations are developed here – both in pure science and in addressing real-world societal and business needs.

PhD studies

FTMC invites PhD students to grow in a dynamic and international scientific environment. Here, you will engage in advanced research, work with state-of-the-art equipment, and benefit from personalized mentorship. You will join an active PhD student community, take part in joint activities, summer schools, international projects, and internships. We encourage involvement in public initiatives, and offer career opportunities after graduation. PhD students receive funding for research expenses, work part-time at FTMC, and have the freedom to propose their own research topics. This is not just a study program – it’s a comprehensive space for growth.

For students

FTMC offers opportunities for bachelor’s and master’s students to complete internships and carry out their final theses in our laboratories and research departments — regardless of which university they attend. During their internships or thesis work, students become involved in real scientific projects, work with modern equipment, and solve technological and experimental challenges together with experienced FTMC scientists. All students conducting their final theses at FTMC and actively participating in research activities are additionally employed. This is an excellent opportunity to get a closer look at the world of science, gain valuable practical experience, and build connections for a future career.

FTMC also invites high school students to complete their baccalaureate (final) projects with us. We offer a wide range of state-of-the-art equipment and scientists who are happy to help you plan your research. We also organize and participate in various events aimed at inspiring students to take an interest in science.
