FTMC Strengthens International Ties: Letter of Intent Signed with Korea Photonics Technology Institute
From June 28 to July 4, 2025, South Korea hosted the important international Korea–Lithuania Laser Industry Forum, bringing together representatives of Lithuania’s laser sector, including FTMC, members of the Laser Technology Association, and the Minister of Economy and Innovation of Lithuania.
During the forum, on July 3, FTMC Director Ramūnas Skaudžius signed a Letter of Intent with the Korea Photonics Technology Institute (KOPTI), marking the beginning of a new partnership between advanced technology centers in Lithuania and South Korea.
“This signature is not the finish line, but the starting point. The real work begins now – turning ideas into tangible collaboration and value. Together with our partners in South Korea, we are opening new horizons in photonics, micro- and nanotechnologies, and materials science,” emphasized FTMC Director Ramūnas Skaudžius.
Lithuania’s laser industry is globally renowned – its companies export their products to more than 100 countries and hold significant positions in the global market. Over ten leading companies from the sector traveled to South Korea, including Light Conversion, Ekspla, Altechna, QS Lasers, and others. During the visit, high value-added technologies were presented, opportunities for cooperation with South Korean businesses and research institutions were discussed, and pilot projects as well as long-term partnerships were planned.
Minister of Economy and Innovation Lukas Savickas, who accompanied the Lithuanian laser sector business mission, noted: “South Korea is a very important market for Lithuanian exporters of high value-added technologies. Political engagement and joint visits help open the necessary doors, while attracting investors remains one of our key goals.”
This forum and the signed Letter of Intent between FTMC and KOPTI represent an important step in expanding high-tech cooperation between Lithuania and South Korea, opening new opportunities for innovation, research, and business development.
