Minister of the Economy and Innovation Visits FTMC
On July 7, the Minister of the Economy and Innovation of the Republic of Lithuania, Lukas Savickas, and his team visited the Center for Physical Sciences and Technology (FTMC) to discuss the prospects of metrology in Lithuania, the activities carried out at FTMC, and the contribution of science to strengthening the country's economy and innovation ecosystem.
The first topic discussed during the visit was the future of metrology in Lithuania. The conversation focused on the importance of this field for the economy, current challenges, and opportunities for collaboration with the Ministry to strengthen the national metrological infrastructure.

The discussions also gave considerable attention to the development of science in response to business needs, the contribution of scientific research to the defence sector, and the transfer and commercialization of scientific technologies.
The ministry's delegation also took part in a tour of several FTMC laboratories. Dr Rimantas Miškinis, Head of the Time and Frequency Standard Laboratory of the National Metrology Institute (NMI), presented the standards and the most relevant services provided to industry. Dr Evaldas Naujalis, Head of the Reference Materials and Measurements Laboratory of the NMI, introduced the field of chemical metrology.

The Minister also visited the anechoic chamber, where high-frequency microwave research is conducted. This area of FTMC activity is particularly relevant for the development of advanced electronics and defence technologies. The practical benefits of this research for industry and its potential for national-scale application were also discussed.
We were pleased to present FTMC's activities to the Minister and his team – such dialogue enables more precise alignment of scientific research directions with the needs and expectations of the state.
