FTMC is Looking for Young Researchers – Join Our Doctoral Studies

The Center for Physical Sciences and Technology (FTMC) is announcing admission to its 2025 doctoral studies. This is a unique opportunity to grow within one of the most modern research institutions in the Baltic States, where science turns into technologies and ideas become world-class solutions.
 
A PhD at FTMC means more than just studies. Together with our scientists, you will develop as a researcher, leader, and person. Together, we will create innovations, advance science, and contribute to meaningful societal changes.
 
Our PhD programmes cover physics, chemistry, and materials engineering. FTMC conducts a wide range of research – from lasers, optoelectronics, and bio- and nanotechnologies to environmental studies and renewable energy solutions. We work with the most advanced equipment, collaborate with international partners, and offer the best learning and working conditions.
 
 
What does FTMC offer its PhD students?

  • Research funding – €1500/year to cover costs for laboratory materials, conferences and publications.
  • Competitive scholarship – €1330/month during the first year, and €1540/month during the second to fourth years.
  • Additional employment – all PhD students are offered part-time (0.25 FTE) employment in FTMC projects, with the opportunity to contribute to the creation of innovation.
  • Freedom to choose your topic – if you don't find a suitable topic, you can propose your own – FTMC values initiative and creativity!
Application requirements and important dates
 
Applications can be submitted by email to doktorantura@ftmc.lt by June 25.

Interviews with selected candidates will take place on June 27 at 10:00 at the FTMC auditorium C301 or online. Candidates unable to attend the interview will be required to submit a motivation letter (doktorantura@ftmc.lt).
 
Start of the studies – 1 October 2025

  • Completed application form with a photo
  • Application letter addressed to the Director
  • Two recommendation letters (one from the prospective supervisor)
  • Copies of Master's degree diploma and its supplements
  • Copy of passport/ID card
  • Curriculum vitae (CV)
  • List and copies of scientific publications
