The Corrosion Research Laboratory of the State research institute Center for Physical Sciences and Technology complies with the requirements of LST EN ISO/IEC 17025:2018 and has been accredited since December 2007 to carry out corrosion tests of metals and their alloys, anodic and cathodic metallic coatings, conversion coatings, anodic oxide coatings and organic coatings on metallic materials in neutral salt spray artificial atmosphere according to LST EN ISO 9227:2017. The Scope of Accreditation (Flexible) also covers an evaluation of coatings corrosion damages according to the LST EN ISO LST EN ISO 10289, LST EN ISO 4628 clauses 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7. The last re-accreditation procedure of the CRL was completed at 10/2022: Accreditation Certificate Nr. LA.01.083 of The National Accreditation Bureau of Lithuania is valid until 26-10-2027.  The CRL as accredited division participates in international  Interlaboratory Comparisons (ILC)  and Proficiency Test (PT) programs, which are obligatory external elements in the quality control of testing laboratories.  In 2022 the  CRL received the PT certificate  from the Institut für Eignungsprüfung (IfEP GmbH) which organized a PT in the field “2206 Indirect verification of salt spray test chamber 2022” according to EN ISO 9227.

Services available

The CRL staff carries out:

  • Expert evaluation of corrosion damages of various products (metals, alloys, steels, paints, lacquers, etc.) in natural and artificial atmosphere and solutions;
  • Evaluation of corrosion impact on industrial objects;
  • Consultation on corrosion protection

In addition to the accredited methods, the CRL can perform non-accredited tests:

  1. Evaluation of coatings adhesion by Cross Cut Test, LST EN ISO 2409.
  2. Determination of resistance to liquids. Immersion in liquids other than water, LST EN ISO 2812-1.
  3. Determination of resistance to liquids. Water immersion method, LST EN ISO 2812-2.
  4. Determination of resistance to humidity. Condensation (single-sided exposure), LST EN ISO 6270-1.
  5. Determination of resistance to humidity (condensation-water atmospheres), LST EN ISO 6270-2.
  6. Total immersion corrosion test for Aircraft Maintenance Chemicals ASTM F 483-08.
  7. Corrosion of low-embrittling cadmium plate by Aircraft maintenance chemicals, ASTM F 1111.
  8. Sandwich corrosion test ASTM F 1110-02.
  9. Cyclic immersion corrosion of cadmium plate, SAE AIR6130.
  10. MEK Resistance test, ASTM D 4752 – 98.
  11. Coil coated metals. Test methods Resistance to humid poultice (Cataplasm test). BS EN ISO 13523-27.
  12. Tests/Cyclic tests in a humidity chamber according to all standards where the temperature is ranging from -70 to 180 °C and relative humidity from 10 to 95 %.
  13. Cyclic tests in a humidity chamber with periodic/intermittent exposure in a salt spray chamber.
  14. Tests in a humidity chamber with a UV lamp.
  15. Assessment of corrosion at scribe by LST EN ISO 4628-8 and LST EN ISO 12944-6.
